    Monthly Recap

Deep into study mode. Juggling between 7 different subjects is challenging but I’m considering it a form of project management which is important for my localization career, or any career at that. The main highlight of my month was getting to attend a Women in Localization networking event. Had a wonderful time getting to learn people’s background and how we all eventually landed at the same school. I am constantly in awe of how impressive my classmates’ language and specialization skills are. It’s amazing to hear other cultural perspectives and how language can be both different and connected in some ways.

    What’s Next!

JACL Project. I have adopted a practicum project from a former MIIS student to continue a website localization assignment for the Japanese American Citizens League located in Monterey. I will be working with another TLM student in my cohort to coordinate with the JACL board members about how we can implement localization solutions for the content published on their website. This organization works diligently to share the rich history about the Japanese immigrant population that was once prevalent in Monterey and the connection to the fishing industry. It’s an honor to help volunteer for this group as I draw many personal connections to my family’s immigration experience in the United States.
